Brunswick PorchFest turns historic Old Town porches into live music stages for a one-day community festival that keeps growing every year – like 10,000 plus this year. Inspired by the original PorchFest in Ithaca, this local version began in 2018 thanks to neighbors with a simple idea: performers + porches = community. And there were some killer bands this year starting off with the incredibly talented Hot Banana Coffee (Brunswick Eats approved name) and rounded out by Alienation, Squirt Gun and South of Athens. But, of course, we’re Brunswick Eats. We came for the food and most of all to talk with the talented makers and entrepreneurs that sacrifice so much time to keep us all well fed.

We stopped in first to see Webster Hill, owner of Greg’s Junkyard Dogs. Webster can be found weekdays in front of City Market in downtown Brunswick with all of his great dogs and fixins. We were craving that good stuff and stole a bit of his valuable time for a quick chat.

We just had to see our friend Stacy at Cakique. Cakique was just celebrating their one year anniversary when we caught up to chat and see what she had to offer for the festival. She is such a delight to talk to. We talked about her brilliantly delicious designer pound cakes in all their glorious varieties from her mom’s original recipe to her Plain Jane to her new fall flavor, Harvest Chai. They’re all so good! Go get you some at Makers today.

And speaking of anniversaries, Lori Peacock of Golden Isles Popcorn had just celebrated 3 years in business. We can see why. She has such a great variety of not just popcorn but pretzels, pecans and more. See her store online or pick some up at Nautical Treasures, Social Butterfly, The Southern Peach or Makers. Check out our conversation below.

If you missed PorchFest this year, I am truly sorry. It was one for the books. So many great bands, so many good friends, and SO MUCH GOOD EATS! Mark it on your calendar every year. If you’re a visitor to the Golden Isles it’s a really great time of year to come. Make it a weekend and treat yourself to the Kress. You’ll be glad you did!
