One part of our family is large – I mean like they have been very busy kind of large. They have been coming to St Simons Island for years and, of course, our house is just not big enough to accommodate such a crowd. Sadly most restaurants aren’t either, or they’re overpriced for such a large family. Enter Iguana’s Seafood. For nearly 20 years Iguana’s has been serving up Wild Georgia Shrimp, fresh seafood and FREE soft serve ice cream 🍦 with all the fixins.
The atmosphere is just the kind of beachy vibe you want on an island with surfboards, iguana murals and sharks dangling from the ceiling. Check out the sizzle reel on their homepage to get the vibe. The outdoor seating is the place to be. You’re right there on Mallery Street in the heart of the Pier Village. Great people watching.
And speaking of people, the service here is really top notch. I get the feeling that employees here actually like their jobs and are having fun. From the warm greeting at the door to the excellent service and you might even get a visit from Big Mike. If you’re a local or in town and tuned into 92.7 SSI on the radio you might catch their incredibly catchy jingle and hear Big Mike (the GM) talking about “Shrimp, shrimp, shrimp and more shrimp”. It’s true. And yes, it is delicious.
Other than delicious, fresh shrimp Iguana’s menu includes burgers (including the Shroomazella Burger
for vegetarians), po-boys, generous platters with steak, crab legs, clam strips, crab cakes and fish. On the lighter side they have soup (the she-crab is amazing when available) and generous salads, oysters, calamari, fried mushrooms… really something for everyone. Did I mention the free soft serve ice cream!!??
