Hot Dog Alley has been a beloved island institution since 1994! After a very successful career in life insurance, Bill Dumigan retired to St. Simons in 1993 and soon after bought a little hot dog cart. We lost Bill in 2017, but his amazing hot dogs live on. Cassie and I spent years poo-pooing anyone who would boil a hot dog – it was grilled or fried up in a cast iron skillet with a nice char or it was nothing at all. We moved from Atlanta some years ago, and there’s not much I miss about that town. Except a joint in Inman Park called The Albert. They serve up an Atlanta dog with chili, slaw and mustard, and I guess maybe I fell for the hype (being an Atlanta native), but that is far and away my favorite combo. Well Hot Dog Alley does it right and at a fraction of the Atlanta prices. Their chili is real hot dog chili – perfect – no frills. And the slaw had just the right amount of mayo. Order up a dog any way you want and get a side of delicious potato salad the next time you’re looking for a week day lunch on St Simons. You’ll be a kid again and super satisfied.
