Let’s all just face facts, Truett Cathy is rolling in his grave. Those chicken biscuits just aren’t what they used to be. Well guess what? Right behind the Chic-fil-A on St. Simons Island is a home cooked biscuit that is sure to make you happy again. Sweet Mama’s is where the locals go. It’s where everybody knows your name. Whether you are craving chicken or egg and copious amounts of bacon on that fluffy biscuit, Sweet Mama’s has you covered.

This is not a place to get a big breakfast with eggs over easy and scattered and smothered anything. It’s more like a pastry shop. They have, hands down, the best cinnamon rolls and fruit turnovers on the island.

Now this may just be a Southern thing. I don’t know, but when I was growing up and Christmas season rolled around, invariably, someone made sausage balls. If you have never had one, I feel badly for you. Sweet Mama’s serves up something called pork pops and they are so addictive, you can gain weight just thinking about them. They are infused with sausage, bacon and cheese and people order them by the dozen. If you have a crowd, you too can be a hero by ordering dozens of these coronary clogging delights.

Ok this is not the place to come when you’re on a diet. This is the place to come when you’re on vacation or when you just feel like a treat. Yes, the locals do eat here a lot, and no, we don’t have a lot of fatties on the island. Just go walk it off on the beach or better yet ride your bike down the path. Don’t miss their melt-in-your-mouth cheese danishes or the red velvet cake. It is called Sweet Mama’s for a reason after all. Whatever you do, make sure to discover for yourself, why this is a beloved island institution for over 25 years!
